Community Service Goes A Long Way

October 2006

Fifteen employees of the Placencia Hotel and Residence spent on September morning doing their Community Service Project in Placencia Village. The Placencia Hotel Staff Member volunteered their Sunday morning to clean the B.T.L Park located next to the Placencia Health Center in the Village.
Their time was spent fully cleaning all the garbage, dead leaves and debris from the immediate park area and bagging the garbage for later pick up by Clean and Green Garbage Disposal Personnel the following day.
“This is one in a series of project that The Placencia Hotel’s “Green Team” will undertake during the year to reinforce the idea of good corporate citizen and social responsibility for all out employees” commented Hotel Manager, Kenrick Theus.
“One other project for early next month is to clean the school yard and place garbage cans at strategic positions around the school property as well and will do work on the entire ceiling and the school building and install ceiling fans in the entire building for the comfort of all the students of St. John’s Primary School. We encourage other B.T.I.A. Members to join us in these ventures and enlist staff support to make it all a reality” stated Mr. Theus, Hotel Manager
The Placencia Hotel has a team of thirteen Supervisors formed into a “Green Team” which effectively manage the day to day aspect of the Hotel and its one hundred strong staff members and set up projects to enhance the over all company profile and outlook.

Simple Request Brings Hours of Fun to Placencia Youth

By: Tracy Eiley, October  2006

Last month when Placencia had their dedication ceremony for the new Police Department I was afforded the opportunity to sit behind the Honorable Rodwell Ferguson. I took the chance and requested some wood so that the boys could build some goalposts for a five a side football tournament. When asked, Mr. Ferguson did not hesitate for even a second before agreeing to my request.
Anyone that happens to pass Placencia’s sports field will notice the youth playing football with the new goal posts. Originally the posts were placed at the southern end of the field. Unfortunately this location allowed for the ball to be kicked into Julie Berry’s yard. After allowing this for a couple of weeks Miss Julie had had enough. So the posts were moved to the other end of the field and the kids continue to enjoy using them. And Miss Julie’s dog can have some peace. Thank you Mr. Ferguson for your willing to give to the youth when asked.
