In the month June, Placencia Village celebrates the opening of Lobster Season with its annual Placencia Lobsterfest. This three day festival honors the delectable crustaceans that were once the primary means of livelihood for this one time sleepy fishing village.

Traditionally held on the last full weekend in June, the Placencia Lobsterfest is a fun filled family affair with a wide range of activities and entertainment and of course delicious lobster dishes.

This year’s activities include the 8th annual Placencia Fishermen’s Day Saltwater Fishing Tournament where captains and their crew vie for the Best Boat position and all the prizes that go with it, live music on the beach in a concert with the Gilharry 7 Band both Friday June 23rd and Saturday June 24th, and with the All Star Steel Band during the day Saturday. The Placencia BTIA raffle takes place Sunday June 25th in the evening with over 40 prizes so far including a round trip ticket to the domestic US courtesy of Continental Airlines. New this year will be the Pickled Parrot Tug O War tournament, the Tipsy Tuna Tuna Toss along with other fun filled beach events.

Join us for Placencia Lobsterfest 2006 – June 23rd, 24th, & 25th on the beach in beautiful Placencia village.

HOW TO GET HERE.......Getting to Placencia is easy and there are several options.

By Air - Both Tropic Air and Maya Island Air fly into the Placencia Airstrip five to six times a day.

By Road - By Car the trio from Belmopan takes approx. 3 hours. Dangriga to Placencia is only 1.5 - 2 hours. The road up until the Placencia Peninsula are great and it is only the Peninsula road itself where you will find rough roads. You can save yourself the bad road and about a half an hour's time by traveling straight to Independence Village
and taking the water taxi across to Placencia.
From Punta Gorda follow the southern highway and either turn off at the Independence junction (approx 2 hrs) or continue on to the Placencia Peninsula road and follow it to Placencia (approx3.5 hrs)

By Bus - Buses coming to Placencia leave from Dangriga after making connection with buses from the North at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 12 noon, 5pm & 5:15pm. Buses from Punta Gorda heading North stop in at Independence and connect with the water taxi to Placencia.
Please Note...If you are planning to bring your boat via road we strongly recommend bringing it to Big Creek, just outside of Independence and launching it from there.

By Boat- If you are coming by boat you may wish to take advantage of marina facilities in the area. Please visit our website www.placencia.com accommodation section for more details.
