Placencia Humane Society:
August Clinic Report
Report submitted by Patricia Celenza
Dr. Floyd Bennett once again attended to our pets at the Placencia Humane Society's animal clinic, held on August 15 and 16, 2009, at Placencia Community Center.
Dr. Bennett also made seven house calls.
His veterinarian services rendered this month included:
*three cat spays
*three cat neuters (including two feral cats from PHS's feral cat program)
*six dog spays (including Honey, PHS's latest rescue)
*one teeth cleaning
*eighteen rabies shots
*twenty-four vaccinations for both cats and dogs
There were no dog neuters this month.
As reported last month, PHS has initiated a feral cat program; however, the traps are still trapped in Belize customs. Not to be deterred, PHS is pursuing in the meantime other avenues to obtain additional traps. With the few traps they do have they managed to trap 2 ferals this month. They were both neutered, vaccinated and released back into the area they were caught. All feral cats also have their ear cropped. One unusual surgery was the spaying of a hermaphrodite dog.
Thanks goes out to Lost Reef Resort, for hosting Dr. Bennett. And without our treasured volunteers, there would be no clinic. Deepest gratitude goes out to Renza Hoban, Cat Harshbarger, Pamela Keck, MaryAnn Kaye, Juana Itch, Junior Member Quincy Zuniga, Jeanne Marechal, Pat Rarrick, and Nancy Lewandowski. Thank you, one and all!
Please note that there WILL NOT BE a PHS clinic in September; Belize Independence Day falls on that weekend. The next PHS clinic WILL BE on October 3 and 4, once again at the Placencia Community Center. To schedule a house call or a surgery please call Pat Rarrick at 610-0522.
