Belize and Mexico Work Together to Strengthen The Tourism Industry
The Belize Tourism Board, The Belize Tourism Industry Association, the Belize Hotel Association, the Belize Tour Guide Association, the Belize National Tour Operators Association, the media and tourism private sector partners partnered with their Mexican counterparts to strengthen tourism opportunities across borders with a familiarization visit by a Belize delegation from July 5th-11th, 2009.
The trip was organized by the Embassy of Mexico, the Ministry of Tourism of Quintana Roo, and the Belize Tourism Industry Association for stakeholders and private sector partner to visit the southern tourism in Central America and included scheduled meetings with Mexican counterparts. The visit was an important step in strengthening the tourism ties between the neighboring countries of Mexico and Belize while at the same time promoting interests in both countries for visits by citizens across the other's border. Mexico, being a close gateway to Belize, has many European visitors and by strengthening ties with Mexico, it also increases the potential for visitors to Mexico to also visit Belize.
During the familiarization trip, the delegation had the opportunity to visit several tourism attractions in Quintana Roo and held meetings in Chetumal, Mahahual, Bacalar, Merida, Valladolid, and Izamal to meet with key Mexican wholesalers, travel agents, and tour operators who were interested in including Belize as a destination visit on their itineraries. Attendees at the meetings also had the opportunity to exchange information and to establish business relationships for future growth.
