Old Jaguar

Old Jaguar

She rests on the land's grassy rug

Her sun-yellowed eyes looking away from today to yesterday

She remembers her leather-like paws climbing the Maya Mountains

At night, amongst the land's braided rainforest, she became a shadow that ran faster than the night's length

Her strength struck its preys like lightning that breaks a stormy night's blackness

Today her coat shines black with yesterday's strength,
Now made gray by the hunter called Time
