Maya Island Now Flies To Cancun, San Pedro Sula, & Guatemala
For the past three years, the Maya Island Air Group has been working with the Governments of Belize and the Region, their Civil Aviation Authorities, and Travel and Tourism Groups to create a convenient, safe and economically viable air link to cover the Mundo Maya Region.
Today, the Board of Directors is pleased to present Maya Island Air Regional which will commence Daily Roundtrip Regional Flights between the Philip Goldson International Airport, San Pedro Sula, and Guatemala City and TWO Return Daily Flights to Cancun on July 8th. This Belizean Airline, which has been servicing ten destinations in Belize for the last FORTY NINE YEARS using Norman Islanders, Cessna Caravans, 182s and Air Vans has now expanded its fleet to include THREE ATR72s. The ATR 72s have been configured for comfort with 68 seats. The ATR 72 is a twin engine turbo prop aircraft which has served commuter routes all over the world with an excellent safety record.
The Maya operated ATRs are leased from a well established Spanish firm, Swift Air that leases aircrafts internationally to major corporations, the United Nations and the Spanish Government. Maya has signed ground handling and on-call maintenance agreements with the best operators at all destination airports. The aircrafts will be initially operated with crew and maintenance from Swift Air while our Belizeans are being trained. At the same time, Maya continues to upgrade its entire management and staff using the best international professionals and professional services. Maya’s reservation system has been upgraded and may be easily accessed on the web. Much effort has also gone into partnering with Travel Agencies, Tour and Hotel Operators all over the Mundo Maya region. Advertising and ticket sales commence today along with a four staged promotional launching (attached separately with schedules and pricing, also see www.mayaislandair.com).
The inaugural ceremonies will be held simultaneously on July 8th. at 7:00am in San Pedro Sula, and Guatemala City and 8:00am in Cancun. Dignitaries and promotion winners will then all fly on the inaugural flights to the Philip Goldson International Airport for an inaugural ceremony at 9am. Here Prime Minister the Hon. Dean Barrow will be the Keynote Speaker.
The Maya Island Air Group expresses its appreciation to Prime Minister Dean O. Barrow, his government, and the Presidents and Governments of Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico including the Governor of Quintana Roo. Special mention must also be made of the concentrated and determined efforts of the resident Ambassadors of Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico, and the professional manner in which the Belizean and indeed all Civil Aviation Authorities in the region including the Spanish Authority worked to apply all due diligence while making this Mundo Maya air ink a reality.
