Approximately six years ago, Erin and Lucky Ivy visited Placencia, Belize on a sailing vacation. That magical vacation turned into a love for the country, the peninsula and the Caribbean islands so great that they set a five year goal to live here. On another sailing vacation the following year, they met Jack McDermott at a horseshoe tournament at the now nonexistent Sugar Reef Resort. He was completing the main house at Captain Jak’s, and invited them to see it. They also loved that house so much that when they brought family and friends to Placencia, Captain Jaks was one of the attractions they showed them.

Two years ago, when Jack developed some health issues and decided to sell Captain Jaks, Erin and Lucky’s goal was realized. Not only would they be able to fulfill their dream of living in beautiful Placencia, they would have a means of showing that beauty to others. They seized the opportunity, purchased Captain Jaks and set out to create a special place to host visitors from around the world and insure their Placencia vacations were filled with the same authentic adventure and romantic beauty that Erin and Lucky experienced on their first fated Belizen holiday.

Erin and Lucky have made Captain Jaks a truly special place and you are invited to visit and join their dream and create your own memories of this tropical, enchanting place called Placencia.

Captain Jak’s is located on the lagoon side only a couple of minutes walking distant to beautiful beaches on the Caribbean Sea. Its grounds consist of tropical gardens, three one story cabanas, two 2 story 2bedroom cottages and a private villa which will comfortably sleep eight. There is a private dock with lagoon access for boat enthusiasts or for just relaxing in a comfortable hammock. There is an observation deck 34 feet in the air, great for viewing the sun rising over the sea with a morning cup of coffee or viewing the sun setting behind the mountains with an evening cocktail. Finally, cook your catch of the day on the outdoor grill.
