The Scotiabank Belize Education Foundation has been assisting primary school students across the country of Belize for three years running. In 2006, the Senior Management of Scotiabank (Belize) Ltd became aware of some very startling statistics, which showed that a high percentage of students throughout the country were unable to continue, or finish, their primary school education, due to family financial constraints, or other deterrents.
For the 2008/2009 school year, approximately 65 education grants were awarded to students throughout the country, including right here in sunny Placencia!To-date, the Scotiabank Belize Education Foundation has assisted close to 200 primary school students towards continuing their education.
In order to award these scholarships, employees of Scotiabank set goals to raise funds. Last year, the Placencia Branch raised these funds by means of a Valentine’s raffle, a Mother’s day raffle and a barbeque sale.
For the 2009/2010 school year, we decided on a barbeque again to start. Still being a bit green on the barbeque sales, we misjudged the customer pick-up times for those plates. However, we were told that it was excellent; thus, we were forgiven.
We would just like to express our profound gratitude to the following people who made our barbeque a success:
Elysia Dial & the Placencia Tourism Center
Brian Yearwood & the Placencia Village Council
Mr. Louis Leslie Sr. & Ms. Bernadine Anderson
Mr. Richard Bull
Ms. Rosenda Aldana
Mrs. Sharon Figueroa and Family
Mr. Salvador Zabaneh
Mr. Samuel Burgess
Thanks to all our customers, family, and friends who bought tickets and made donations!!
Scotiabank – proud to serve the people of Belize for 40 years, and determined to make a difference for the youth, who all deserve a brighter future.
